Sunderland fielded a number of guest players: Nolli was from Darlington St. Augustines, whilst Wynn, Wilson, Fox and Borrie were from Middlesbrough. Accrington were the first professional team to visit Sunderland, George Haworth was an England international player who won the FA Cup with Blackburn Rovers in 1885.
